Despite a very tough course and some really high scores, Earl Hale put together a net 68
to win the May Day Classic at Poppy Hills. The day started out cold and so did most of the
players. But as things warmed up, the contest seemed to pick up, too. Bud Adler won
the low net for the A Flight while Stan Yanaga won it for the B Flight. Rick McLain
blasted the long drive for the men and Elisa Hoppner won it for the women. Rick also
won a closest to the pin on hole 17. Will Hoppner nearly holed out on his attempt for
closest to the pin on hole 6 with his ball rolling to 9 1/2 inches! Other closest
to the pin winner were Tony Cruz on hole 2 and John Abate on holes 11 and 15. Steven
Harlow had a great day with his putter taking fewest putts with only 28. And Paul
Bove stood over his 30 footer on 18 while the rest of the field watched from the deck
and drained it to take long putt. Nice one Paul!
Congratulations to all the winners!
