2006 WCGA Points System

We will use a point system to seed people for Match Play Championship and to determine Player of the Year.
Points will be awarded to participants in all tournaments running from the November tournament through the Club Championship in October.
Points earned for the first six will determine seeding for match play. Points for all tournaments will be used to determine the Player of the Year.
Members interested in participating in the Match Play Championship must notify the Tournament Director or President.
Players will earn points in each tournament based upon their net score. The following point scoring system will be used:

Low Net 100 points (including ties)

Low Gross 90 points (including ties)

2nd place 90 points (including ties)

3rd place 80 points (including ties)

4th place 70 points (including ties)

5th place 60 points (including ties)
6th place 50 points (including ties)
7th place 40 points (including ties)
8th place 30 points (including ties)
9th and higher (Participation Award) 20 points

This scoring is independent of the particular tournament format (e.g. best ball, wacky ball, etc.) If you are a participant in the Match Play Championship, you must putt out regardless of the current tournament format, no 'gimmes'.

Tournaments designated as Major Tournaments will award double points for the participants. The four Majors are the Masters in April, The WCGA Open in June, the WCGA Cup in August and the Club Championship in October.
After the Masters Tournament is completed in April, the top ten (10) players will enter into a match play competition (USGA Rules) to determine the Match Play Champion. Once the final qualifiers have been identified, they are to notify the Match Play Championship Director (Ted Hammam), when and where they intend to play. Once notified, the Handicap Director (Pat Harlow) will provide the handicaps for each participant based on the course they selected with the latest available Index. Note that for Match Play Competition only, 85% of the adjusted course handicap for each player will be used, instead of 100% as for regular tournament competition. The Match Play Championship Director will assign a referee within the foursome to handle rulings during the match. Additional information will be provided, (if applicable) before the first match play round is stipulated.
Playoff assignments will be as follows:

1st vs. 10th
2nd vs. 9th
3rd vs. 8th
4th vs. 7th
5th vs. 6th

Qualifiers should coordinate match play rounds with their opponents as expediently as possible, utilizing the regularly scheduled WCGA events, if possible, beginning with Shoreline on May 13th. If players are not able to play their matches on these dates, they are responsible for scheduling and playing their match on a mutually agreed upon golf course by a pre-determined date. If such an agreement cannot be reached, the Match Play Championship Director or designate will attempt to arbitrate. Failure to complete playoff rounds in a timely manner can lead to disqualification. All decisions, disputes are to be resolved by simple majority of Club Officers. Decisions on such matters by the Club Officers are final.
For Player of the Year competition, all points earned by all members throughout the year will be used. There is no requirement to notify anyone to participate in this event. The member with the highest accumulation of points following the Club Championship will be awarded the Play of the Year Plaque to hold for the following year until a new Player of the Year is determined.
