Who says you can’t play golf in hurricane-force winds? It didn’t seem to bother Chris Tamez
as he fired a net 68 to win this year’s WCGA Open in windy conditions that would make Chicago
look dead calm. The wind did provide plenty of excitement as at almost any time, there
seemed to be several Easter Egg Hunts going on as golfers searched for golf balls that
were blown off the course. Mike Beesley also held his game together as he took the A Flight
Low Net honors and Justin Collins came in just behind him and took A Flight Runner-Up. John
Kranich held steady throughout the wind storm and managed to best the B Flight participants
winning Low Net, while Eric Giles won a tie-breaker with Damian Espinoza to take Runner-Up.
Justin launched a tee shot that nearly made the green on the long drive hole and won Long Drive.
He also did well putting and took Long Putt. Fewest Putts went to Steven Harlow with 28
putts – nice job in that wind! Closest To The Pin winners were Chris Tamez on hole 3,
Damian Espinoza on holes 7 and 13, and Eric Giles on hole 15. Despite the winds, the scores
were pretty reasonable and everyone seemed to have a good time. Once again, Deer Ridge provided
a great venue and we will be playing it again next year.
Congratulations to all
the winners!
